The youth in Mambrui have faced challenges with education for years, Rasta, a 23 year old father of one, says he struggled to complete his primary education after his father passed away and he had to drop out of school to help his mother fend for the family and younger children. Years on, Rasta has no technical skills that would assist him find lucrative employment, he roams the town seeking daily casual labor. During this pandemic, most of this seasonal labor dried up and there is little hope for Rasta and his family. There are many such stories in the area, and Abana plans to make interventions to ensure access to financial literacy training and skills transfer, enabling more sustainable livelihood and reducing needs for negative coping mechanisms.
