Abana is a green organization, that seeks to engage youth in resolving critical world challenges such as climate action (SDG 13), development (SDG 8 and 9) and peace (SDG 16) with a view to contributing towards the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030. Abana International is a non profit organization 501(c)3 registered in USA, formed in the aftermath of COVID-19, to uplift the needs of the youth from all backgrounds through STEM training, skills transfer and experiential learning. Promoting economic resilience will go a long way to enabling peace and security worldwide, a feat achievable through strengthened economies and education.

of Happy Mbuche Mwagambo, a resilient young woman from Kilifi, Kenya, whose
dream of becoming a doctor was abruptly disrupted by the Ukraine war.

Women’s Needs Under the Jenga Jamii Project

The Jenga Jamii Project aims to empower widows by addressing their social, economic, and emotional challenges through the following key needs:

  • Micro-business funding
    Skills and vocational training
  • Financial literacy and savings groups
  • Counseling and reintegration support

Youth & Children Education Needs

Children and youth supported by Abana International face significant barriers to staying in school. Through this project, key needs include:

  • School fees support to prevent dropouts
  • Learning materials such as books, uniforms, and stationery
  • Support for orphaned and at-risk children

FLAGSHIP PROJECTS

Our most urgent crisis today is economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic that wreaked havoc worldwide and caused millions of job and income losses, further reducing the opportunities for youth to find feasible opportunity. To address this, Abana is working to educate and empower youth, through inclusive selection process. Read about our projects here.

The Greenpreneurs Agenda

The Greenpreneurs Agenda is a youth-led economic empowerment initiative for start-ups, scale-ups to promote self reliance. It encourages climate smart businesses and was launched in 2024. Abana has been working with youth in select areas of US and East Africa, to enable re-skilling and training of youth, including those who are vulnerable, rehabilitated, and recovering addicts. Mentorship is a key component of this initiative.

Women in third world and developing countries, are more likely to suffer under the burden of poverty. Abana works with rural women in Kenya and Uganda to enable micro enterprise development. This includes widows, teen school drop outs, FGM survivors, recovered addicts and petty offender reintegration.

Abana International works with vulnerable youth and children to support them through their education with small grants. We envision supporting 3000 youth by 2030. There are several beneficiaries under this project, and some cases have been highlighted above.

Beacon of Hope Project

Abana is working directly with orphanages in East Africa to sponsor education and tertiary training. This special “Beacon of Hope” project, is envisaged to have 3000 orphans educated to University level by 2030. Within the Beacon of Hope initiative, is a partnership project with Youth Sports Initiative, that aims to elevate young sports talent in underfunded communities.
